Heart of England Community Foundation has been awarded Excellence in Charity / Third Sector at the Solihull Chamber of Commerce Awards.

The Foundation was crowned at the Solihull Chamber’s annual dinner and awards ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on 7th October, with 400 guests attending.

The prestigious event was sponsored by Solihull College & University Centre, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, and the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

The Foundation’s Chair, Chris West, accepted the award on the night, he said:

“Heart of England Community Foundation has worked hard in the last few months to raise its profile in Solihull and to direct more funds to more Solihull’s voluntary groups.  We were absolutely delighted to see this recognised by the Chamber of Commerce through the Award for Excellence in the Charity / Third Sector.

“The awards night was really enjoyable, a great buzz in the room, and colleagues from all sectors engaged enthusiastically in the event.  I enjoyed the opportunity to meet and get to know new people in the region.

“We had not expected to win an award and I am acutely aware of the great work done by the other finalists, St Basils, Molly Ollys and Birmingham Dogs Home – all of whom would have also made worthy winners.

“As Chair of Heart of England CF it was fantastic to be able to collect the award on behalf of our staff, trustees and donors, whose hard work and commitment drive what we do.

“There is an increasing need for us out there at the moment – but it is important to take a moment to celebrate.”

The Foundation has grown significantly over the previous 3 years, having had many successes and challenges along the way but what remains paramount is our commitment to support West Midlands and Warwickshire communities to live happier and healthier lives. Last year the Foundation awarded 596 to community organisations to the value of over £2.9 million with our average grants being just under £5,000. We know small grants can make a real difference to grassroots organisations delivering directly in communities.

Tina Costello, Chief Executive at the Foundation, said:

“I’m shocked and delighted that the Foundation have won the Excellence in Charity / Third Sector award, we were up against three other fantastic charities. During the ceremony I attended St Basils 50th Anniversary event, who were also shortlisted for the same award! It was fantastic to celebrate together!

“It doesn’t matter who wins because anybody that works for a charity is a winner!”
