A grant from the Foundation’s Peddimore Community Fund is helping to fund a new Theraplay workshop for children and parents, organised by Beacon Family Services to help deal with family trauma.

It’s the second time the Sutton Coldfield based charity has been awarded a grant from the Foundation’s Peddimore Community Fund, thanks to funding from IM Properties, supporting grassroots organisations surrounding its Minworth Scheme.

Charlotte Jenkins, Founder of Beacon Family Services says the money is well spent when you see the amazing feedback they get from parents.

“You can clearly see the benefits from our workshops where we teach parents and children to connect through play.

“Often parents feel they’re not good enough and are failing, however we show them they do have the skills and how the whole family can be made to feel safe and secure.

“Once this is established, other aspects of life fall into place and both parents and children appreciate each other more and self-belief goes up and stress levels go down.”

Charlotte says they are now working on a digital model to offer sustainable support to a wider audience.

“We know what we do really does work, and this approach could have far reaching benefits for any family.

“We’re all busy running around and forget it’s often the simple things in life that build memories for children and make them feel secure.”

Now working with a team of 10, Charlotte says thousands of children and parents have been positively impacted by the workshops and the work of Beacon Family Services.

Kerry Amory, Social Value Manager for IM Properties, says:

“It’s so great to hear these stories, you can see the team is so passionate about what they do and genuinely speak from the heart.

“It’s also good to see them working alongside other family support organisations we’ve funded through grants including Sutton Coldfield based Our Place and The Gap.

“The Community Fund has always been about creating benefit where it is most needed, and we really feel we are making some headway and connecting up with the network of organisations offering crucial local services.”

Tina Costello, Chief Executive of the Foundation, said:

“We’re excited to be working with IM Properties on the Peddimore Community Fund and it’s fantastic to see the impact of the local initiatives the fund supports. With it being Children’s Mental Health Week it’s important to share the crucial work being done to support children’s wellbeing.”

IM Properties is committed to delivering a positive impact to communities outside of the physical boundaries of its developments through its Peddimore Community Fund, developing skills and employment opportunities and donating time and resources in partnership with its supply chain.
