After pledging a further £50,000 to the Titan Partnership the Wesleyan Foundation has now awarded over £3,000,000 to organisations across the UK.
In 2017 Wesleyan Assurance launched the Wesleyan Foundation as part of their commitment to supporting great causes that are important to their members and the communities in which they live and work.
The aim of the Foundation is to support grassroots, volunteer and community-led projects that make a real difference across the UK, targeting four key themes: health and wellbeing, education, innovation and social development.
The Wesleyan Foundation, administered by Heart of England Community Foundation, has now awarded more than 500 grants across the UK. One organisation to benefit is Titan Partnership who received a donor directed grant from Wesleyan at the start of 2021.
Carolyn Chapman-Lees, Chief Executive Officer of Titan Partnership, said:
“We’re a small education focused charity based in Birmingham, working with primary and secondary schools, further and higher education. One of our key priorities is equality, diversity and inclusion, so tech poverty is of real concern to us.
“A lot of the schools that we work with are in extremely deprived areas of Birmingham, so the tech poverty challenge has hit these schools particularly badly.”
Titan were awarded £50,000 to support their Computers for Children campaign which was launched in the early stages of the pandemic.
“We know that many of our schools don’t have the capacity to allocate one device per student.
“So far, we’ve delivered 149 devices to both primary and secondary schools. With the £50,000 from Wesleyan, we are aiming for at least another 200 devices, which is will make a real difference to the lives of young people and their families.
“We’re just absolutely delighted. Wesleyan does some outstanding work with teachers as part of their core activity however this additional support is so very much appreciated. The Wesleyan Foundation adds another layer of much needed support for the education sector that is working so hard to ensure that young people are not left behind during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a transformative amount of money for our schools.”
The Wesleyan Foundation was launched in June 2017 by specialist financial services mutual Wesleyan, administered by the Heart of England Community Foundation, and has already provided more than £3 million in funding to over 500 charities, community groups and social enterprises around the UK.
